So I watched this video on Ted.com: Lollipop Moments and it INSPIRED me to be a lollipop fairy today. Besides handing out lollipops, I gave them to our students as well so they could do their own social experiments. We handed out lollipops to other students, co-workers, strangers and I even asked the kids to pass them out to people they didn’t really “care for.” I will update you tomorrow as to how the kids made out! So true! Nobody hates a good listener! When you are listening to a friend, be present in the moment, shut out all other thoughts of chores, work, kids, vacation etc. Don’t think about what your response will be, don’t think about how you can one up the conversation or what intellectual gem you can drop to sound smart, just listen. Natural consequences for children are always the best! Allow them to feel the consequences of their actions, it will make them a better person and teach them valuable lessons. If they skip class, don’t yell at the teacher, allow them to serve their time in detention. If they don’t go to practice, don’t get mad at the coach when they don’t get play time, allow them to serve their time riding the bench.
