My friend Diane Dengall painted this picture of my children…. With her fingers and bits of rolled up toilet paper. When Diane was young, her family could not afford to buy her paint brushes but her desire to paint was stronger than her circumstances. She taught herself to paint with her fingers and grew into a very celebrated artist who has done paintings for Oprah and Mr Rogers among others. The moral of the story is that nothing should hold you back. Determination is an amazing quality and will get you far in life.

There is a Taoist story of an old farmer who had worked his crops for many years. One day his horse ran away. Upon hearing the news, his neighbors came to visit. “Such bad luck,” they said sympathetically.

“Maybe,” the farmer replied.

The next morning the horse returned, bringing with it three other wild horses. “How wonderful,” the neighbors exclaimed.

“Maybe,” replied the old man.

The following day, his son tried to ride one of the untamed horses, was thrown, and broke his leg. The neighbors again came to offer their sympathy on his misfortune.

“Maybe,” answered the farmer.

The day after, military officials came to the village to draft young men into the army. Seeing that the son’s leg was broken, they passed him by. The neighbors congratulated the farmer on how well things had turned out.

“Maybe,” said the farmer.

*** This is one of my favorite stories! It demonstrates that situations are not good or bad, they just are. Often something that seems really bad happens but a blessing comes out of it. If you can learn to find the blessing in all things, even those that seem “bad” you will truly be living An Inspired Life! ***

Wow! Nothing is more refreshing than meditation! I love to meditate and lately I have been meditating solely on LOVE. If you have never meditated before… it is easy! Here is a very simple technique: Sit in a quiet room in a comfortable position, the idea of meditation is to clear your mind but many people have trouble doing that in the beginning. Instead of trying to clear your mind, just use a mantra to recite such as: I am filled with an abundance of love and my life is beautiful! Your mind might wander from time to time but don’t worry about it, just get back to the mantra.

Meditate however long you feel comfortable, I usually do 20 minutes, but you can start with 5 and work your way up. You will feel so relaxed and refreshed after meditating and you will surely live An Inspired Life!
