A little “torture” makes kids grateful!

Nothing like a little “torture” to make a kid appreciate how great they had it at home!

Our middle daughter left for boot camp and the letters coming to us are filled with love and gratitude. It’s a bit shocking really…. but YAY!!!

C’mon parents, you know what I mean, don’t deny it. Those long, angst filled teenage years. The drama, the tears, the constant worry, the waiting up for them………. it all pays off in the end!!

Watch today’s video and share my moment of glory when my teenage daughter realizes how much we love her, and how all those years of pushing and encouraging have paid off for her!

What do you think? Please comment below! ๐Ÿ™‚

5 Lessons In Surviving Chaos

Last week I inadvertently over-booked myself. Besides my regular work load of blog posting, course teaching, content creation, clients, and the 5 teenagers in the house, I also had 2 birthday parties, 1 anniversary, 1 marketing meeting, 1 scheduled talk with book signing, and 1 teleconference. All to be followed up by 3 days of a surprise vacation getaway for Thad and my 3rd wedding anniversary. It was a challenging week for sure, and I would LOVE to say that I handled it all with perfect grace, but alas, my human side kicked in and I allowed myself to feel overwhelmed for a few tense moments. Thank goodness I was able to put it all into perspective, detach from outcomes, and decided to just give it my best! And happily it all worked out. The best part, I took away some knowledge in surviving chaos!

The 5 lessons I learned from over-booking myself:

1 A life lived frantically is no fun:
I truly do not know how people maintain a frantic pace for long periods of time. Running here and there, always trying to reach that next goal or milestone, and feeling like life is a marathon. Living frantically like that makes you miss the little things, the finer moments, and the people we care about. Living frantically means doing more but living less. Our life is about our relationships, but how could we possibly enjoy them if we don’t stop and make time to cultivate them? Step away from the next project for a while and spend some time with the people you love.

2 Just because you scheduled it, doesn’t mean you have to do it:
Being someone who is hell bent on always being “loyal and reliable,” I am not the type of person to back out of a commitment. However…. there are times when have to just apologize and excuse yourself from something you said you would do. It’s OK, people will forgive you! Most importantly, forgive yourself! We have all bitten off more than we could chew at some point. Admit that you are overwhelmed, or need help, and move on.

3 If you have to “schedule” sleep, you are doing too much:
Sleep, relaxation, eating, and personal wellness should never need to be on the schedule in order to be prioritized. These are things that should be done daily, without having to work them in to your schedule. Create a routine around them if you have to, but don’t skip them because you didn’t schedule them. You are absolutely nothing without your own wellness, take care of you, so you can take care of all the other “stuff!”

4 When you absolutely cannot slow down….. SLOW DOWN!
If you can’t, then you must. I didn’t say you have to stop, just slow down. If you are driving your car faster, and faster, and faster…. you will eventually either get stopped and ticketed, or you will run out of gas, or even worse, cause an accident. Your best work is not done while barreling through life at 100 miles per hour. Slow down, take a breath, enjoy the view, then move on.

5 Give yourself something to look forward to:
This past week was hard, but I am really grateful for the anniversary getaway at the end of it all. If you don’t give yourself something to look forward to, then it hardly seems worth it all. How many times have you set a new goal after reaching the last one without any celebration between the two? Give yourself something to look forward to by HONORING yourself and your accomplishment!

I hope you are avoiding chaos, but when you absolutely have to participate in it, at least be sure you can survive and come out on the other side to Live Inspired Now!

Transform your life today….

Books have the power to transform lives but you have to read them for them to work! Don’t be so easily “entertained” by the television, open a book instead! I am actually reading 6 books right now. I am reading 4 which I use as references for the course I am teaching about step families. The other 2 books are audios: 1 that I listen to at the gym on my iPhone, and the other I listen to in the car because it is on CD.

Here is the list of my current reading:
Reading for FUN:
Outwitting The Devil by Napolean Hill
Your Kids Are Your Own Fault by Larry Winget
Reading for research:
Mom’s House, Dad’s House by Isolina Ricci
The Secrets Of Happy Families by Bruce Feiler
Joint Custody With A Jerk by Julie Ross and Judy Corcoran
Co-Parenting With A Toxic Ex by by Amy Baker and Paul Fine

I often hear people “say” they want to make changes, or “say” they want to better themselves, or “say” they want to make things work out, but I don’t “see” them taking action. All the answers to all the problems that anyone faces, are available in books! In addition to my extensive coaching programs, I often “prescribe” books to my clients.ย  My best selling book, Live Inspired Now; A Field Guide For Happiness, is always first on the list! ๐Ÿ™‚ If you would like to start to transform YOUR life, please pick up a copy today: http://liveinspirednow.com/the-book/

*Live Inspired Now; A Field Guide For Happiness has an extensive bibliography that lists all of my favorite transformational books, and movies!*

Don’t wish for a new life, create one, start with a great book, and Live Inspired Now!

Do YOU have “this” secret for success?

passion

“Man is so made that when anything fires his soul, impossibilities vanish.” ~Jean de la Fontaine

With passion, anything is possible! And the best part is that not only is it possible, but passion is the fuel needed to keep a dream alive until it becomes a reality! People are always searching for “motivation” but what they really need is passion. If you are not motivated to do something, you probably aren’t very passionate about it. Pursue things that set your soul on fire! Things that you would do for free, just because you love it! Things that bring great joy to you or others. Things that just make you feel awesome!

I started my blog about 4 years ago as a creative outlet that would allow me to use my authentic voice, and that passion has never left me. In fact, itย  has grown bigger, and to the point where I have actually pulled back from it on purpose! lol. Now I blog only about 3 times per week rather than 7, so I can dedicate more time to writing for other things. I NEVER thought I would ever see my writing in print but my passion won out and my writing is now in newsprint, magazines, and online publications. It is like a dream come true, and it was all fueled by passion!

Passion and inspiration are the most potent ingredients for success! Whatever you are doing, whether in your work, or your philanthropic endeavors, let passion be your fuel. In relationships as well, be passionate about your partner and enjoy a relationship that will last forever! Live with passion, pursue that which sets you ablaze, and Live Inspired Now!

Quit your whining and start living…..

RESPONSIBILITY is the Ability to choose your Response! Having the ability to choose your response to any situation, event, or circumstance means you have a great deal of power. It is far more powerful to choose how to respond to things than it is to just react to something. When you react, you give away your power. The last thing you want, is to give your personal power away to someone who irritates you!

Taking personal responsibility is the highest form of power because it means that no matter who confronts you, or what happens to you, only you are responsible for how you act as a result. Let’s completely get rid of the BS that you don’t have any control. Let’s stop saying things like: “It’s not my fault, I couldn’t help it, he made me do it, or that’s just how I am!” These BS excuses have no place in a life of happiness and inspiration. Those types of excuses are for victims, martyrs, cry babies, haters, whiners, Debbie Downers, and Nay-Sayers!

YOU have the ability to create a life that is happy, joyous, and full of gratitude! YOU have the ability to get the resources you need to create the life you love. YOU have everything within you to leave a lasting impression on this world…. will your impression be one of misery and excuses, or one of smiles, laughter, and happiness? When you leave the earth, do you want people to think of all the excuses you made, or remember all the inspiration you gave? It is always YOUR choice, your personal ability to respond to your environment. So today, drop the BS, stop making excuses and start making a life! Start living, loving, enjoying, laughing, feeling, smiling, trying, doing, being, and most of all inspiring!

How will YOU inspire someone today?
